There’s no ignoring the fact: the reading habits of children (and adults!) have been on the decline for years. Books are constantly competing with television, video games, and social media, and distracted students suffer. Young learners, in particular, are unable to develop the comprehension skills necessary to succeed in middle and high school. They learn at a slower pace and what they learn doesn't stick. Their ability to understand complex subjects suffers and, naturally, they fall behind. Even worse, students who struggle with reading learn to hate it: the moment teachers stop assigning them literature, they stop reading.
LTWN’s Book Club is the antidote, dedicated to developing a lifelong love of literature in both avid and reluctant readers. By participating in this program, students will achieve the following:
1. Engage with the text enthusiastically and develop powerful reading habits
2. Build their capacity to concentrate and consume content faster
3. Develop comprehension skills and gain a thorough understanding of literary elements
4. Intelligently communicate their thoughts and opinions regarding the assigned material
In short, the main objective of the LTWN Book Club is to create an engaging, joyful reading community while still encouraging intellectual growth. Students will be assigned one book a month and will meet once a week for 75 minutes over Zoom to participate in a facilitated discussion. Our passionate teachers will curate the books according to grade level as well as provide structure to the live sessions. They’ll assign exercises, monitor engagement, and assure positive learning outcomes.
The Book Club is perfect for both avid and reluctant readers looking for a fun, energizing opportunity to explore literature with their peers. Unbound by the stress of a school setting, students can forget grades and focus on the joy of reading. Through discussion, they’ll discover how stories connect us and the importance of delving deep into the world of words.
Students will learn how to read with attention and intention. Their comprehension skills will be boosted through careful annotation and deep discussions. They’ll learn to read closely to catch important details and identify main themes. Students will be asked to relate the books to their own lives and experiences, developing emotional intelligence in addition to social consciousness.

Our goal is to create lifelong readers. Our students will understand that engaging with literature isn’t just important for succeeding in school; it’s important for succeeding in life. Young learners will develop empathy, curiosity, and perceptiveness.
